Body spotted floating at Muizenburg

Shark spotters at Muizenberg spotted a body floating on the beach over the weekend.

The City’s Marine Unit of the Law Enforcement and Specialized Services together with the National Sea Rescue Institute conducted a search and the body was recovered late on Sunday.

Disaster Risk Management Centre Spokesperson Wilfred Johannes- Solomons said the offices of law enforcement that serves the coastline found a set of dentures and other personal belongings from the deceased person, while conducting a search along the coastline and handed the goods over to the police.

He adds that the family of the deceased have reported the person missing at the local police station and later during the day the body of the deceased was found on the rocks near Rocky Beach in Muizenberg.

Furthermore he adds that the police services diving unite, the Law Enforcement and the NSRI recovered the body.

It is believed that the deceased from Steenberg was angling when he was washed off the rocks and then presumably drowned.
