The South African Democratic Teachers Union has expressed shocked at a newspaper report of a teacher who allegedly showed porn to two learners, and sexually assaulted one of them at a primary school in Pimville.

SADTU’s General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke said the report comes at a time when the country is spreading messages calling for the protection of women and children as part of 16-days of activism against gender violence.

Maluleke says they urge the Department of Education to that they have a thorough investigation into how pornographic material could have gained access into the school grounds.

“We call upon our members and to teachers in general to ensure that we protect our learners, and love the children that we teach; and ensure we build a society that would respect the dignity of every individual” Maluleke edded.
