The families of the 11 SA National Defence Force members killed in a plane crash in the Drakensberg, are expected to collect the bodies of the deceased this weekend.

Since the tragic crash of the SA Air Force Dakota on Wednesday morning, the victims’ bodies have been kept at the nearby mortuary.

The plane left the Waterkloof Air Force Base on Wednesday morning en route to Mthatha Airport.

SANDF Spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said wreckage of the Dakota could be seen across the small crash site.

Dlamini said the plane’s engine was new and the cause of the crash is still not known at this stage.

Dlamini adds that a board of inquiry is ready to start its investigation regarding the crash.
