The National Union of Mineworkers is demanding from Eskom a one year agreement with a salary increase of 12 percent across the board.  This as the country is in its mid-year strike season.

Eskom offered the union 5.6 percent wage increase but NUM has rejected this latest offer.

NUM Chief Negotiator at Eskom Helen Diatile said the Congress of South African Trade Union needs to intervene because members are treated like slaves because they cannot strike as they are essential service.

Diatile said Eskom has money but they would prefer to give it to the lawyers. They would rather work with lawyers than the employees, they need to prioritize as who is important.
