An accident on the N2 under the Sarnia Road Bridge today left the highway closed in both directions.

It is believed that one truck was parked in the breakdown lane when another truck rear ended it.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said, “Fire department, ambulance services, police and traffic arrived at the scene and found both trucks to be well-alight, some of the product from a tanker split out spreading the fire down the road.

Fortunately, both drivers managed to escape from the trucks with no injuries; firemen battled the blaze and managed to extinguish it just after 05h00.”

Meanwhile, 24 people were injured this morning following a four vehicle collision on the N2 highway in Langa.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said,” ER24 paramedics along with other services, arrived on the scene to find three lanes of the highway blocked by four wrecked vehicles.

Debris from the vehicles were spread across the three lanes. On assessment they found that 24 people had sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
