Acting President
Jeff Radebe has expressed his shock and sadness at the horrific accident which
happened on Thursday night in Pinetown, which left 22 people dead.
The accident also
left 17 people injured.
Radebe said he has
briefed President Jacob Zuma who is currently attending the G20 Leaders' Summit in Russia .

Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said this is a third collision claiming many lives in
only a few days, following the death of nine people including seven young girls
returning from the annual reed dance ceremony in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend
and the death of seven people on the N2 between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth
in the Eastern Cape.
Mahraj added that the loss of such a high
number of people, some of them breadwinners is painful and has affected so many
households negatively. We urge road users especially drivers to exercise
caution on the roads especially when carrying passengers.
Meanwhile KwaZulu Natal Police have confirmed
that the truck driver who was involved in the horrific accident that killed 22
people in Pinetown has been arrested.
It is believed that the truck
crushed into five vehicles leaving 22 dead and 17 injured.
The truck's brakes are suspected to
have failed.
Police Spokesperson Vincent Mdunge
said they have to formally charge the driver for culpable homicide as well as
reckless and negligent driving.
