The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday said the ANC in Parliament voted against a DA proposal that would have extended the right to vote on the national and provincial ballot to all South Africans, including those living abroad.

DA MP Deputy of Home Affairs Masizole Mnqasela said time is running out before next year’s elections and they will continue to fight this matter in court.

Mnqasela said it is rather unfortunate that the ANC opted to ignore a fundamental democratic right for South Africans to vote for both provincially and nationally irrespective of whether the person is abroad or in the country.

He added that the DA will contest this decision even if it going to the constitutional court.
