The Democratic Alliance has written to the Chairperson of the Interim Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation Ellen Tshabalala, requesting that she intervene to ensure that Acting Chief Operating Officer does not implement a policy that 70% of SABC bulletins are happy news.

DA MP of Communications Marian Shinn said truthfulness; accuracy and fairness are what the SABC should be aspiring to and not artificial construct of happiness.

Shinn said this is strictly on the light of general election coming up next year and seems to indicate that the SABC will not be adhering to its charter of using news value in its covering of elections.

She added that the COO needs to be put in line by the board to ensure that he does not innovate policies of his own and stick to the policies of the SABC.
