A report released by the Western Cape Education Department showed that teachers were absent from school for an average of five days.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the key priority for the department is the protection of learning and teaching time.

This is to ensure that teachers are at school everyday on time and ready for the day.

Casey added that they are very pleased to see that absenteeism figures of educator post in the Western Cape has decreased since 2010 from per average of six days to five days.

“We are well below the national figure of 90 days in the Western Cape” Casey said.
