People Against Suffering Oppression and Poverty said they will be engaging with the Department of Home Affairs further this is in regards with the department ending refugee status for Angolans.

Passop Director Braam Hanekom said it is their view that after people have lived in South Africa for over ten years many of them, the short time in which they have been given to leave the country is unreasonable.

Refugee status for Angolans ended at the end of August this is after a decision which was made by cabinet.

Hanekom added that whether or not the situation in Angola has stabilized they believe that South Africa has a human responsibility to enable Angolans enough time to wrap up their affairs in South Africa.

“We will be engaging with the department of Home Affairs with the intention of appealing Home Affairs to give Angolans 2 to 4 years visas in South Africa to allow them to find ways of establishing themselves .” Hanekom said.
