ER24 paramedics were called out to two accidents on the N1 this weekend.
A pedestrian was killed in one accident while another is in a critical condition in hospital.
In the first accident, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car on Friday night.
The accident took place just before the Durban Road off ramp in the direction of Paarl.
The victim sustained massive head trauma and paramedics said the damage to the car that hit him was quite extensive.
The female driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
ER 24 spokesperson for the Western Cape Tristan Wadeley said the male victim is believed to be around the age of 30.
“He was killed on impact after sustaining massive trauma. Emergency services declared him dead on arrival.”
In the second incident, a male also suspected to be around the age of 30, was hit by a bakkie just before the Brackenfell Boulevard.
He was unconscious when paramedics arrived on the scene.
Wadeley said the victim sustained a head injury and a fractured leg.
“He’s in a critical condition and was taken to Tygerberg Hospital.”
