The City of Cape Town’s water and sanitation department has requested all citizens and industries to play their part, and combat water pollution.
The City said many of the stormwater channels and watercourses throughout Cape Town contain traces of pollution that could be harmful to the environment.
Individuals play a large role in reducing these pollutants in streams.
The streams and vleis are often used for recreational purposes.
The City’s Wastewater and Industrial Effluent By-Law defines the parameters of legal discharges in the stormwater and sewerage systems.
Anyone who has concerns about water pollution can contact the Water and Sanitatiion technical Operations Centre on 0860 103 054, or you may use the SMS line 31373.
