Both the Koeberg nuclear power station’s generating units are down. The one was shut down in January for extended scheduled maintenance. The second one shut down this afternoon because of a power surge in Cape Town.
"At this stage I am reasonably confident that we will meet the full requirements of electricity users in the Western Cape, given that we have built two new power stations in the Western Cape; one in Atlantis and one in Mossel Bay,” said Eskom’s spokesperson Fani Zulu
“With sensible electricity use by Cape Town businesses and residents, they should be able to prevent blackouts in the city and surrounds. It could take between two and ten days to get the second unit on line again,” said Zulu
