Drag races, taking place across Cape Town has given the Cape Town Traffic Services a huge headache.
Drag races are rife in the areas of Salt River, Ottery, Bellville, Epping and Kensington.
Traffic Services carries out strategic operations to try and curb this activity on a regular basis together with fellow law enforcement agencies South African Police Services, Law Enforcement and Metro Police.
In the past year, 34 road accidents have occurred with three serious injuries and two fatalities.
During March 2009, sixteen motor vehicles were suspended from use on a public road as these were found to be unroadworthy.
Various traffic fines issued include 10 for wheel- spinning, five for inconsiderate driving, two for disregarding a lawful instruction and 19 other offences to the value of R20 000.
