Bafana Bafana captain says it was war against Mexico

Bafana Bafana are basking in the glory of their one-all draw against Mexico in the opening game of the FIFA World Cup in Soweto last night, but they are also aware that it was a very tight, tough game. Captain Aaron Mokoena says it was a real battle on the pitch.

He adds that the man of the match award was well earned by Siphiwe Tshabalala who sent millions of South Africans wild with excitement with his superb strike in the 54th minute.

Mexico has admitted that they were surprised by the excellent defence offered by Bafana Bafana, but winger Carlos Vela feels his side are still potential knock-out phase contenders.

He says they could have sealed the match in the first half, but did not take their chances.

Meanwhile, roads leading to Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg have been closed since ten this morning in preparation for the four-thirty kick-off when Nigeria and Argentina will tackle each other.

This match has caused almost as much excitement as the Bafana Bafana/Mexico clash and a packed out stadium is expected. With an African team up against the South Americans, home fans will be out there screaming their heads off. Roads will be reopened at ten tonight.
