The two robbery suspects arrested in the Cape Town CBD yesterday afternoon will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on robbery charges including attempted murder and the possession of illegal firearms as well as ammunition.

The two aged 26 and 33 years old were arrested during a police crime prevention operation in the city yesterday afternoon.

According to police, after they noticed two armed men running in the direction of Parliament Street they gave chase where the suspects after noticing police fired shots and police subsequently retaliated.

“At the corners of Darling and Parliament Streets, one suspect with a 9mm firearm was arrested and an undisclosed amount of cash was recovered,” says spokesperson Warrant Officer November Filander.

Filander says with the public’s assistance, they were able to locate the second suspect in a Plein Street parking lot.

“The suspect who was wounded in his right leg, was arrested with a 9mm firearm in his possession,” he says.

At this stage the two suspects remain in police custody while their accomplice who was seen fleeing the scene in an unknown direction is been sought.

Investigations continue.
