Police officer arrested for renting out police gear

A 23-year-old police officer has been arrested today for renting out police gears.The police constable is a member of the railway police in Johannesburg.

The officer was renting out guns, bullet-proof vests, radios, blue lights and sirens.

The 23-year-old police was caught after a robbery that took place on Wednesday, when a gang of armed men dressed in police uniform, robbed a business of cell phone and jewellery.

The police arrested the constable, two of the four robbers, an employee of the business that was robbed and a security guard who worked at a car dealership in Pretoria from where the getaway car was stolen.

Police are now investigating how the police officer managed to source the gear.
