The South African Municipal Workers Union is demanding that all vacant positions in the local government sector be filled as a matter of urgency.

Samwu has stated that there are currently more than 30-thousand vacant positions in local government.

The union adds that if these vacant positions are filled it would improve service delivery.

Samwu also believes filling these positions would help government meet its target of creating five-million jobs between 2010 and 2020.
