Community House declared a Heritage Site

Today the Community House in Salt River was declared a Heritage Site. Members of the community, people who were directly involved in the inception of the Community House attended the ceremony as well as the MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport Ivan Meyer.


The National Lottery Board funded the event and also injected some money to help revamp the Community House. Spokesperson of the Lottery Board Sashin Naidoo says they are very proud to be part of this achievement and that part of their mandate is to protect the Heritage of South Africa.
 Community House made an application to the lottery board and met all the requirements to receive funds from the lottery.


During September 2010 Community House called for artist to give in proposals for an outdoor mural reflecting the significance of the site and for a seven art installations in memory of the people commemorated in Community House’s halls.


Elijah Loza , Jeanette Curtis ,Ashley Kriel ,Neil Agget ,Imam Haron and Wilfred Rhodes are some of the people commemorated.


Family members were also invited to attend the ceremony.
