The ANC has distanced itself from Member of Parliament Patekile Holomisa after homophobic statements were made.
It is reported that the head of the Congress of Traditional Leaders said the ANC knows the great majority of the country do not promote or protect the rights of gays and lesbians.
The DA has called upon him to retract his statements and apologise.
DA chief whip Watty Watson said that if Holomisa refuses then the ruling party should suspend him.
He added that if what he said is true, then it should be withdrawn because it goes against our constitution.
Watson said he thinks the statement is homophobic.
