The DA has written to the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services.
They are demanding transparency on the programmes in place with regards to inmates who will be released on special remission.
The DA’s James Selfe said the fact that many people released in 2005 offended very rapidly after their release.
He added the DA wants to know if the lesson was learnt in 2005 for the remission that was granted by President Jacob Zuma on Freedom Day.
The DA also wants the assurance that the people who will be released are properly rehabilitated and prepared for their release.
