The DA will be writing to the speaker of the National Assembly Max Sisulu and the chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Johannes Mahlangu requesting that the chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence Cecil Burgess be removed.

Chief Whip of the DA Watty Watson said that the DA noticed in a report to the Hawks detective Kobus Roelofse, addressed to the commander of the anti-corruption task team, that shows that Burgess was potentially interfering in the investigation into crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli and his finance head Solly Lazarus.

Watson added that the report shows Lazarus approaching Burgess on several occasions without notifying his direct divisional head.

He added that Lazarus was trying to convince Burgess that the investigation against Mdluli would compromise national security.
