The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded to the scene to secure the area.
NSRI’s Craig Lambinon said the department of environmental affairs, oceans and coasts arrived on the scene and took control.
Lambinon said vets from the SPCA arrived and began removing the whale from the water.
He added that a decision will be made as to what to do with the whale.
The whale is severely injured with cuts to its stomach.
Lambinon said the injuries are believed to have occurred when the whale washed onto rocks.
He said that the whale is in very poor health and it is a possibility that it would have to be humanely put down.
