Transport Minister S’bu Ndebele will address the Commission for Global Road Safety in New York today.
Representatives from various governments, road safety activists, the United Nations and the World Bank will gather to find ways to improve road safety around the world.
The department’s spokesperson Logan Maistry said that more than 1.3 million people are killed every year on roads across the world, with more than 50 million people injured.
He added that the decade of action aims to ensure that road deaths are reduced by at least 50%.
The decaded of action for road safety will run from 2011 until 2020.
