The National Sea Rescue Institute has urged parents to be vigilant these holidays and watch over their children when they go to the beach.

Manager of the NSRI’s Water Wise Academy Andrew Ingram said people need to take the time to put emergency telephone numbers into their cell phones before the holidays.

Ingram said when people caught in rip current, they should not panic but raised their hands and that makes it easier for life savers to spot someone in danger.

He adds that people should call for help when they see someone in danger at sea.
