Agreement between unions ends dispute

The National Education and Health Allied Workers Union in the Eastern Cape says, it is happy to announce that all sixty six of its union members, that were dismissed by the management of the Eastern Cape Midland College, have been reinstated.

This follows the signing of an agreement between the union and the Department of Higher Education and Training, resolving the elongated dispute between the union and the college management.

The dispute originates from a strike action by union members in January this year, which was later declared as unprotected and illegal.

Sizwe Pamla said, “We want to make it very clear that we are very happy after seven months of negotiating, we have managed to reach an agreement with the department of higher education and that agreement resulted in the reinstatement of sixty six of our members that were dismissed by the Cape Midland College”

We had always insisted that the dismissal on its own had no merit because the college management had delegated its responsibility they decided to retreat and actually go on a conservational course.’’ Pamla added.
