Pregnant woman fell four-storey in Pietermaritzburg

ER24 paramedics this morning rushed to an incident scene after a 26-year-old pregnant woman fell four storeys at a construction site on Town Bush Road in Chase Valley, Pietermaritzburg.

It is alleged that the woman lost her footing, causing her to fall the four storeys and colliding with the scaffolding.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find the patient lying amongst the nearby scaffolding. Workers that had witnessed the incident and stood around the patient.

He added that paramedics assessed the patient and found that she had sustained a serious injury to her head as well as her back.

“Treatment as well as advanced life support interventions was performed on the patient to stabilise her vital signs. Once treated, she was transport to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment” Meiring said.


The exact details to the cause of the incident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
