ER24 paramedics today responded to an incident whereby a 23-year-old man’s leg was caught in harvesting machinery while he was working on a farm near the St Barnards Park, near the KZN/Lesotho border.

ER24 Spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the man suffered extensive injuries to his left leg.

Jackson said that it looked like it was pulled in by some spikes in the machine.

“He was trapped and while they were trying to stabilise him on scene, they called in the assistance of air 24 and when paramedics arrived on scene they provided him with pain medication and they then proceeded to remove his leg from the machine,” added Jackson.

Jackson said his leg was quite badly damaged and broken but he was airlifted to the Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg   for further care.

She added that he was handed over to trauma staff and at this time it is not clear whether they will be able to save his leg or not but he is under care.
