The Marikana Support Campaign today said
the Constitutional Court judgment on Monday
regarding funding for the legal team representing the 270 injured and arrested
mineworkers is an insult to the workers.
The Campaign’s Trevor Ngwane said the
mineworkers were not given an opportunity to state their case which was not
fair.
Ngwane said the Con court judgment is an
insult and a slap in the face for the workers of Marikana, the workers of South Africa and also that of
the world.
“It dismissed the case of the workers
without letting them speak and it was dismissed based on a technicality,” added
Ngwane.
He furthermore added that the
constitutional court refused to address the issue of workers being mowed down
by police bullets and also their rights to equal representation in a court of
law.
He continues by saying that this is a sad
moment for South Africa and it exposes the
true nature of the democracy.
