This Easter will be a long one for the 210 learners of Matthew Goniwe Memorial High School, who will only find out after the holidays, whether they will be demoted or remain in their current grades.
The Western Cape Education Department announced that it would launch an investigation last month at the Khayelitsha school after it emerged that 210 learners were wrongfully promoted to a higher grade.
The end-of-year results contained in the school records differed to those that were sent in to the department.
The school’s principal has since been suspended.
The Education Department said officials had completed their investigation, but their findings would only be reported to pupils at the end of the short school holiday.
