The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management centre is assisting the needy with humanitarian aid during the cold weather.
This comes as the Western Cape sees a brief respite from the rain for at least the next few days.
Disaster Management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says so far they have assisted seventy homeless people with hot meals, blankets and clothing and are also urging families and those who live on the street to ensure their own safety.
Solomons-Johannes says the City’s outreach programmes will be maintained to help people living on the streets with humanitarian aid and to assist with sourcing emergency accommodation at shelters as far as possible, as part of the City’s comprehensive disaster plan for storms and flooding.
In the event of a life or property threatening emergency, the public are requested to dial 107 from a land-line or 021 480 7700 from a cell phone.
