Western Cape Transport Minister Robin Carlisle has thanked train commuters for their support during Metrorail strike which lasted for a week.
During the industrial action thousands of Western Cape Commuters were left stranded, forced to use alternative transport. Golden Arrow Bus Services and Taxi Associations helped to transport the commuters.
Carlisle says it showed the commitment Capetonians have.
“This Cape Town spirit bodes well for the World Cup,” said the minister.
Before the start of the strike the provincial government, the City of Cape Town and the Cape Chamber of Commerce formulated a contingency plan to help commuters and employers minimise disruption.
More buses and taxis were used to effectively double the morning and afternoon peak hours.
Security at transport points was also intensified.
