The demolition process of the Athlone cooling towers is underway as the date nears.
When one of the rings surrounding collapsed early this year it raised concerns about the safety of surrounding communities.
The busy N2 highway was also under spotlight.
City Councillor Clive Justus says it is now the Jet Demolition Construction Company that is working around the clock to make sure the job is done.
“The constructors have been on site for the past two weeks preparing for the process,” said Councillor Justus.
The Councillor says the process is expected to be done after the World Cup not as it was planed before.
“We expect it to be in within 60 days,” he said.
The towers can be the history by the end of July or by the beginning of August.
