Four suspects have been arrested for being in possession of unlicensed fire arms and a stolen motor vehicle in Athlone.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Ian Bennet says SAPS members received information of unlicensed firearms at an address in Athlone
“During the execution of the search warrant at a house in Newton Avenue, Athlone, police members found a white bag inside a cupboard, containing two firearms and ammunition. One of the firearms was reported stolen in Mitchells Plain.
“A 22 year old female and a 45 year old male were arrested for possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition,” said Bennet.
He says further investigation at the same premise, led to the discovery of a 1980 Toyota Conquest positively stolen in Mitchells Plain and a motorbike positively stolen in Lansdowne.
“The serial numbers of a Honda Ballade vehicle and a Nissan Stanza Yamaha Superbike were tempered with.
We arrested two males, age 23 and 27 for possession of stolen motor vehicles,” added Bennet.
The suspects are being detained at Athlone SAPS and will appear in court soon.
