Bafana Bafana head coach Carlos Alberto Perreira named his 23 man squad which will present South Africa in the upcoming FIFA World Cup during a press conference this morning.

The conference was addressed by both SAFA President Kirsten Nematandani and CEO Leslie Sedibe.

The omission of the tense and emotional conference was that of Benni McCarthy.

His fitness was said to be the deciding factor, as he seemed unfit compared to those in competition with him.

The lack of his name in the list as it was called prompted a surprised reaction from many members of the media at the press conference.

Perreira also said that goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez, defender Innocent Mdledle and midfielder Flankline Cale were the other three players cut from the original 28-man squad.

The final squad will face Mexico on June 11, at Soccer City.
