Three people died and nine others were injured after a bakkie left the road and went down an embankment into trees, on Old Tygervalley Road, in Durbanville.
The three deceased were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
The other nine patients were treated for minor to moderate injuries and transported to various surrounding hospitals for further treatment.
The cause of the incident is unknown at this stage.
Also twelve people were injured, five critically so, in an accident on the N 17 between Wadeville and Boksburg last night.
Paramedics say they arrived at the accident scene and found that a family of five consisting of a couple their two girls aged 14 and a 16 month old-baby were critically injured.
Seven commuters from a taxi had sustained serious injuries.
Meanwhile ER24 paramedics say that all small children should be placed in some sort of car seat or booster seat when travelling in a motor vehicle, but also to attempt to protect our children in all aspects of their life.
“In no way are we promoting parents or guardians to go out an buy a large roll of bubble wrap and wrap their children up in pillows every day, but we encourage awareness when it comes to protecting your child,” said paramedics in a statement.
