The Creative Workers Union of South Africa is concerned about the selection of local artists at the World Cup opening concert at the Orlando stadium in Soweto, saying South Africans should boycott the event.
The organisation’s president Kid Sithole says that local culture needs to be promoted on the global stage.
Speaking at a media conference in Johannesburg yesterday, Sithole said Fifa had failed to take its recommendations into account.
Grammy award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo is among the artists that are excluded. Sithole is appealing to people to voice their grievances by staying at home and not attending to the concert.
