A 24 year old suspect is due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court this morning for his attempt to defeat the ends of justice.
It is alleged the suspect phoned his insurance company saying he was hijacked in Maitland.
He informed the tracking company that two unknown males held him at gunpoint and forced him out of his vehicle.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Siyabulela Vukubi says following the complaint, the tracking company then activated the tracker in order to trace the client’s vehicle which was found parked in Product Street, Maitland.
It emerged the suspect was trying to check the effectiveness of police and the insurance company.
He was arrested on the scene.
Vukubi said they will not tolerate the kind of the behavior from the public and they will not allow the abuse of government resources.
