Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile announced 28 heritage projects to celebrate and honour anti-apartheid heroes.
The minister said just over R1 billion will be spent by the department on a heritage route to make sure heroes such as Oliver Tambo and Steve Biko are honoured.
He added that over the next three years, the project aims to create more than 10 000 jobs.
Mashatile said the projects will include renovating struggle icons graves, birth places and roads in the area.
