In the week ahead, the Department of Home Affairs plan to increase it efforts to eradicate more than 29 000 duplicate ID’s.
The names of those affected by this will be published in more national newspapers.
Dedicated counters and personnel have been set aside for South Africans by the department.
Department of Home Affairs spokesperson Manusha Pillai further said the scourge of duplicate ID’s have brought grief and pain to thousands of South Africans.
She added that the department has also activated its SMS service to enable South Africans to check their ID status.
SMS the letter D followed by your ID number to 32551.
