An urgent High Court application to interdict former crime intelligence Chief Richard Mdluli from continuing to function in the police was launched by non-profit organisation Freedom Under Law.

The two part application requests that Mdluli not be allowed to function in the police service and start a judicial review into why the criminal charges against him were dropped.

Advocate Jeremy Gauntlett said that Mdluli’s former bosses, General Jackie Selebi and General Bheki Cele, were suspended in the light of far less serious allegations.

Gauntlett said that there are currently 600 police officers in the country under suspension, so why not Mdluli.
