City of Cape Town proposes 24hour traffic and law enforcement deployment

The City of Cape Town is proposing a limited 24hour traffic and law enforcement deployment across the city.

In a statement the city said crime levels and general adherence to the law continues to be of concern to the city.

Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security JP Smith said there is a desperate need to boost capacity of law enforcement especially after hours.

Smith said the money will provide both for extra staff as well as the shift allowances that are required which will allow both traffic and law enforcement to effectively start serving the public at night time as well.

“This will have the beneficial effect of allowing Metro Police to concentrate on crime prevention as they are doing law enforcement at night and the only law enforcements doing a 24hour service” Smith added.
