The South African Communist Party in the Western Cape has called for a halt in the planned mass retrenchment of workers at PetroSA.

In a statement SACP Provincial Spokesperson Masonwabi Sokoyi said the planned mass retrenchment is concerned with profit maximisation, called operational requirement and not with the well-being of the workers.

The SACP has also called for an immediate investigation into illicit leakage of public resources.

Sokoyi said it is our interest that PetroSA should operate in a manner that assists our government as well as trying to energize our economy in the Western Cape and country in particular.
