The Western Cape’s
Police Oversight & Community Safety MEC, Reagen Allen, has described the
killing of a 14-year-old in Eerste River as ‘’extremely upsetting’’.
Naeema Marshall was
shot and killed in New Forest Village, eerste River on Monday afternoon. The
girl from Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain, was visiting her aunt at the time of
the incident.
‘’Kleinvlei police
registered a murder case following a shooting incident on 2023-07-17 at 13:00
at a premises in Budhi Crescent, New
Forest Village, where a 14 year old girl was shot and fatally wounded. Circumstances
surrounding this incident are under investigation. The motive for this shooting
incident is unknown. The case was transferred to Anti Gang Unit detectives for
further investigation,’’ said Captain F.C van Wyk.
A 14-year-old boy has
since been arrested for allegedly being behind the murder.
Allen says child
murders needs to stop.
‘’The fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl is
extremely upsetting. The manner in which our children are losing their lives is
totally unacceptable, and this has to stop. An entire life is now lost and none
of her dreams or aspirations will be achieved,’’ said Reagen Allen, Western
Cape’s Police Oversight & Community Safety MEC.
‘’It is deeply horrifying
that the alleged shooter is a 14-year-old boy. Regrettably, he would have to
face the consequences for his actions. I have a number of questions, particularly
around how a child at this age has access to a firearm. It would be important
that the person who provided the firearm to the boy be arrested and convicted,’’
he added.
