Fifa takes control of Soccer City

With eight days to the kick-off of the Soccer World Cup, Soccer City Stadium, the venue for the opening match next Friday was officially handed-over to Fifa president Sepp Blatter and organising committee chairperson Irvin Khoza by Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and Johannesburg mayor Amos Masondo today.

In the presence of Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile, a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the stadium.

The delegation went on to visit the International Broadcast Centre for the official opening ceremony, located just a stone’s throw away from Soccer City.
