Khoisan's fight for their rights

Lusanda Bill
4 September 2010

Today thousands of Khoi and Boesman women, children and men marched to parliament.

They are demanding a sustainable policy, underwritten by the constitution, which will recognise the status and guarantee the rights of South Africa’s first indigenous people.

The march which took place today represented the public declaration of the Khoi and Boesman National Assembly which was established on the 26th of June 2010.

A cultural gathering and an indigenous ceremony is being held at Company’s Gardens.

The Gardens is a important space in Khoi history, because it was the ancient gathering place for Cape Khios indigenous clans and also where ancient Gorinhaiqua had a kraal.
