No military training for leaders of the ANCYL and YCL

Lusanda Bill
13 September 2010

Defence and Military Veterans Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has withdrawn her decision to give leaders of the African National Congress Youth League and Young Communists' League military training.

The training would have been a two-week special programme at the Saldanha Navy Base on the West Coast. Civil Rights group AfriForum has withdrawn an urgent court application for an interdict to review her plans.

DA’s David Maynier says Sisulu should adhere to Zuma’s statement that government is in favour of the de-unionisation of the military.

Maynier’s comment comes after yesterday Defence Force court interdict to stop a march by the South African Security Forces Union on Parliament.

The South African Security Forces Union are not backing down, they say they are determined to go ahead with marches in other centres as soldiers’ working conditions are unbearable.
