Striking teachers disrupt school exams in Cape Town

In Cape Town, protesting teachers have again targeted a school where examinations were supposed to get underway this morning.

They blockaded the entrance to the school in Blue Downs, preventing children from entering.

Yesterday, strikers stormed an FET college in Khayelitsha, tearing up ad setting exam papers on fire.

They forced lecturers to leave and warned them not to come back today.

“This action by striking teachers must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

I would like to make it clear to any individual considering breaking the law that we will take the strongest possible action against them in order to protect the rights of learners and non-striking teachers,” Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant said today.
