The Automobile Association stated today that it will cost up to R100 billion in order for the major roads in our country to be fixed.

AA spokesperson Gary Ronald said, “What we have seen over the last 10 or 15 years is a steady decline in the condition most of our provincial roads. More so where the average condition of roads has gone from poor to very bad.”

The AA also stated that roads were becoming irreparable and would have to be rebuilt.

The Transport Ministry spokesperson Logan Maistry said “Mainly as a result of a dire shortage of professional skills and inadequate institutional arrangements, portions of the South African Road Network, especially those under the jurisdiction of provincial and local government, continue on a down slide”.

Logan Maistry also added that initiatives were being put in place to rehabilitate major roads.
