The Bawusa Agricultural Workers Union of
South Africa said it is disappointed at the outcome of the case of the murder
of Michael Daniels.
It is alleged that Daniels was struck by a bullet fired by a police officer during a strike in Wolseley almost two years ago.
The court acquitted John Geldenhuys of all
charges of the basis of insufficient evidence.
Bawusa General Secretary Nosey Pieterse
said farmworkers cannot rely on the police and the courts for justice.
Pieterse said one can see now what we have
been saying all the time has been true that there is no justice for farmworkers
and we can’t rely on the courts and police to defend farmworkers.
“We will have to take the defence of
farmworkers into our own hands because relying on the system will just bring
about more disappointments Pieterse added.
